Case Studies

National Life Insurance Company (Older Adult Consumer Sentiment): A large national life insurance firm works with Age-Friendly Institute researchers and analysts for an ongoing series of Sentiment Surveys about older adults and their perceptions about retirement and related lifestyle topics.  The independent research is compliance-approved for distribution by financial advisors to customers and prospects [see sample survey].

SOMPO Digital Lab (Medical Device Proof of Concept Research):  Japanese insurer SOMPO was conducting a proof-of-concept for a medical machine learning platform designed to detect neuromotor and neurocognitive disease, track disease progression, and measure the impact of therapy based on mechanical and touchscreen usage of personal devices. Age-Friendly Institute analysts worked with the device and platform provider to prepare criteria for recruiting cohort participants, then recruited and served as the point of contact for all participants.

Wharton School at University of Pennsylvania (Longevity and Health): The Wharton School Pension Research Council asked The Age-Friendly Institute to conduct research and author a chapter for the Council's book entitled "Managing Longevity Risk: New Roles for Public/Private Engagement". Tim Driver and Amanda Henshon's published work links working longer to improved health and longevity.  Surveys were sent to several hundred thousand older adults nationwide in the Age-Friendly Institute's panel, with 1,438 respondents.

Boston College Center for Retirement Research (Demand Science): To explore whether employers actively recruit older workers, Boston College researchers turned to the Age-Friendly Institute and its RetirementJobs.com, the only major job posting site targeted to individuals ages 50 and over. Specifically, the Center researchers were given access to the website’s postings data as of November 2019, which captures the picture before the disruptions of the pandemic era.
